This world heritage is about a sinking city left to rot, or Venice and its Lagoon. Perhaps not. There is a constant fight against the forces of nature going on in this splendid city of northern Italy.
The UNESCO World Heritage List includes more than a thousand properties with outstanding universal value. They are all part of the world’s cultural and natural heritage.

UNESCO’s World Heritage Centre’s short description of site no. 394:
“Founded in the 5th century and spread over 118 small islands, Venice became a major maritime power in the 10th century. The whole city is an extraordinary architectural masterpiece in which even the smallest building contains works by some of the world’s greatest artists such as Giorgione, Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese and others.”
My visit
Home of Marco Polo and other Venetian sea and land travellers, one of the most romantic cities in the world, and one of the most endangered ones too. Venezia continues to fascinate all visitors. Me too when I visited Venice and its Lagoon in 1991. I made it a day trip like many else and hope to return some day to spend more time.
