Everything from Qatar

Qatar is a small peninsula jutting into the Persian Gulf from the Arabian Peninsula. It is mostly flat and arid, with a population of about 2.7 million, the majority of whom are expatriate workers. The capital is Doha, a modern skyline-dominated city. Once a poor British protectorate known for pearl diving, Qatar gained independence in 1971. The discovery of vast oil and natural gas reserves transformed it into one of the world’s wealthiest nations per capita.

It is an absolute monarchy ruled by the Al Thani family. Qatar has gained global prominence through its state-owned media network, Al Jazeera, and for hosting major events like the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Its economy is dominated by liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.

Qatar is a country in the region Sandalsand has defined as the Middle East and Africa. There are introductions to this region and other regions in the Destinations menu.
