Zimbabwe is a landlocked country in southern Africa, characterised by high plateaus, mountains, and wildlife reserves. It has a population of about 16 million. The capital and largest city is Harare. It is home to the famous Victoria Falls on its border with Zambia and the ancient stone ruins of Great Zimbabwe, from which the country takes its name.

Previously the British colony of Southern Rhodesia, it gained independence as Zimbabwe in 1980 after a prolonged conflict. The country endured a period of hyperinflation and economic decline under Robert Mugabe’s long rule. Zimbabwe has significant mineral resources and agricultural potential. It is renowned for its stunning natural beauty, including Hwange National Park, and its rich archaeological heritage.
