Everything from Ecuador

Ecuador is a small South American nation straddling the equator, from which it takes its name. Bordered by Colombia to the north, Peru to the south and east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west, it encompasses diverse landscapes, from Andean peaks and Amazon rain forest to coastal plains and the Galápagos Islands. Ecuador has around 18 million inhabitants, with Quito as the high-altitude capital and Guayaquil as the largest city and economic hub.

Historically, Ecuador was home to indigenous cultures and later part of the Inca Empire before Spanish colonisation in the 16th century. It declared independence in 1822 and has since developed into a democratic republic. Ecuador’s biodiversity is among the richest in the world, with the Galápagos designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today, Ecuador balances economic growth with environmental preservation, tourism, and oil production as key sectors.
