Everything from Montenegro

Montenegro is a small Balkan country with a dramatic landscape ranging from beaches along the Adriatic coast to the rugged limestone peaks of the Durmitor mountains. Its name means “Black Mountain.” The population is approximately 620,000. The capital is Podgorica, while the old royal capital of Cetinje holds cultural significance. Historically, Montenegro maintained a unique autonomy during the Ottoman era and was an independent kingdom before joining Yugoslavia.

It peacefully regained independence in 2006. A NATO member and EU candidate country, Montenegro’s economy is oriented towards tourism, attracted by its scenic Bay of Kotor and medieval towns. It uses the euro despite not being a full EU member and is known for its stunning natural beauty.

Montenegro is a country in the region Sandalsand has defined as Southern Europe. There are introductions to this region and other regions in the Destinations menu.
