Everything from San Marino

San Marino is a tiny, landlocked microstate completely surrounded by Italy. It is situated on the slopes of Mount Titano in the Apennines and has a population of around 33,000. Claiming to be the world’s oldest surviving republic, it was founded in A.D. 301. The capital is the City of San Marino, a medieval hilltop town. Its history is one of maintaining independence through shrewd diplomacy.

Today, it is a stable multi-party democracy with one of the world’s highest GDPs per capita. Its economy relies on tourism, banking, and the sale of collectible stamps and coins. San Marino is known for its picturesque setting, well-preserved historic center (a UNESCO site), and its unique status as an ancient republic.
