Everything from Latvia

Latvia is one of the three Baltic states in Northern Europe, situated on the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea. Its landscape is marked by vast forests, thousands of rivers and lakes, and a long coastline of sandy beaches. The population is about 1.9 million. The capital, Riga, is famous for its architecture, from medieval Old Town to Art Nouveau districts.

Latvia has been independent twice: first in 1918 after centuries of foreign rule, and again in 1991 following the collapse of the Soviet Union, which it had been forcibly incorporated into in 1940. A member of the EU, NATO, and the eurozone, modern Latvia has a high-income economy. It is known for its strong folk song traditions and as one of Europe’s greenest countries.
