Everything from Taiwan

Taiwan, officially the Republic of China (ROC), is an island nation off the southeastern coast of China. The island covers rugged mountains, fertile plains, and a subtropical climate. It is both geographically diverse and densely populated. The country has around 23.5 million inhabitants, with Taipei as the capital and largest city.

Historically, the island was inhabited by indigenous peoples. It was later colonised by the Dutch and Spanish in the 17th century, and eventually ruled by the Qing dynasty and Japan. Following World War II, the ROC took control. It developed into a prosperous democracy after decades of authoritarian rule. The independence is contested by the People’s Republic of China and recognised by very few countries in the world. The country often goes by the name of Chinese Taipei.

Today, Taiwan is a global leader in technology and semiconductor manufacturing. It has a vibrant economy and cultural life blending Chinese traditions and indigenous heritage. Despite limited diplomatic recognition, Taiwan maintains strong international trade and cultural connections.
